COMMUNITY NOTICE - Pandemic Protocol Non-Compliance Issues - July 29

The Customary Chief and Headman are responsible for protecting the health and safety of those residing on Ojibway Nation of Saugeen reserve lands. This notice is intended to provide PUBLIC NOTICE to residents and non-residents alike who are non-compliant with the COVID-19 Pandemic Protocols in place to protect the community.

REVIEW OF PANDEMIC PLANNING AND MOVING FORWARD AFTER JULY 2, 2021

We have had some recent questions from community members related to our pandemic planning and how we will be moving forward after July 2, 2021.

COVID-19 Emergency Funding

The ONS Health Centre with the Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA) and the Northwestern Health Unit (NWHU) have organized a Pfizer vaccine clinic for the community. The clinic will take place Friday July 2nd, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, at the community Multiplex.

COMMUNITY MEETING - Friday, August 12

No Community Band Meeting on Saturday, July 30

There is no Community Band meeting on Saturday, July 30, 2022 as previously posted by Darlene Necan at the Multi-Plex centre and on her Facebook page. Chief Ron Machimity and Councillors Betty Necan and Joyce Medicine have not agreed to the Band Council meeting and will not be in attendance. Band Council meetings can only be called by a quorum of Chief and Council, not baby one of either the Chief and Council. Any meeting held by Darlene Necan is not an authorized Band Council meeting and is not valid. 

Community Notice re: Federal Court decision - April 28, 2022

We are pleased to announce that the long-awaited Federal Court decision was delivered on April 21, 2022. Federal Court Justice Grammond decided that Edward Machimity, Eileen Keesic and John Sapay are removed from their respective positions of Chief and Headmen of the Ojibway Nation of Saugeen and that Ron Machimity Sr. is the lawful Chief, and Joyce Medicine, Betty Necan, Darlene Necan and Desiree Jacko are the lawful Headmen of ONS.

2021 Christmas Payment to All Ojibway Nation of Saugeen Members

We continue to make sure all of our families are looked after, as part of our yearly Christmas outreach program. While in the past our Christmas Hamper Program has met the needs of our local families, we want to make sure that all of our members' Christmas needs are met in this difficult year of continuing COVID-19.

New Band Manager
November 1, 2021

The Chief and Headmen are happy to announce that Fran Machimity is the new Band Manager for the Ojibway Nation of Saugeen, effective November 1, 2021.

LETTER TO ONS MEMBERS
April 20, 2020

The Customary Chief and Headmen, along with all staff, have been working hard to keep our Community and Members safe from the Global COVID-19 Pandemic. Ojibway Nation of Saugeen applied for the emergency COVID funding from Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) at the end of March 2020, and received confirmation from Canada last week on the amount and this morning on the terms attached to those funds.

UPDATE: We want to report that we are moving quickly with our NEW Governance Code Working Group and will be announcing names soon. Please be aware that Desiree Jacko is NOT part of the NEW working group and no ratificiation vote will be conducted based on her Survey Monkey results. All ONS community members are encouraged to reach out to participate in the legitimate NEW working group. 

Application deadline extended to April 15, 2021.
