Chief and Headmen would like to inform ONS community residents that all COVID-19 cases in the community were resolved as of December 25, 2021. We want the community to remain vigilant with COVID-19 and the variants in the area.

Annual Christmas Concert and Community Feast Postponed - December 13, 2021

We would like to inform the community of Ojibway Nation of Saugeen that the Annual Christmas Concert and Community Feast has been postponed until after the New Year when school resumes. Due to positive COVID-19 cases in the community.

3 Positive Covid-19 Cases - December 10, 2021

The Ojibway Nation of Saugeen now has a total of 3 positive cases in the community. The nurses will return to the community in about 7 days to re-test. As a result, the Saugeen Health Centre is CLOSED to the public. In the event of an emergency, please call Telehealth - 1-866-797-0000 or the Ambulance at 1-877-351-2345

COMMUNITY NOTICE - Pandemic Protocol Non-Compliance Issues - July 29

The Customary Chief and Headman are responsible for protecting the health and safety of those residing on Ojibway Nation of Saugeen reserve lands. This notice is intended to provide PUBLIC NOTICE to residents and non-residents alike who are non-compliant with the COVID-19 Pandemic Protocols in place to protect the community. 


The COVID-19 Pandemic Team is moving cautiously while the province of Ontario is moving into step 3. We will continue with the Visitor Request forms and we will re-evaluate in two (2) weeks. There will be no changes with our current protocols.

  1. Checkpoint personnel will monitor the main access.
    1. Document all vehicles and occupants.
  2. Road closed from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. (excluding Police and Ambulance)
  3. ONS residents only.
  4. Shared custody/visitations.
  5. 72-hour request for visitors (non-resident).

Continue to follow all safety precautions, hand sanitize, wear a mask, and social distance.

Please treat our checkpoint security with respect and be patient as they perform their job.

We have had some recent questions from community members related to our pandemic planning and how we will be moving forward after July 2, 2021.

COVID-19 Pfizer Clinic taking place on Thursday, July 29

The Ojibway Nation of Saugeen Health Centre and the Northwestern Health Unit (NWHU) will be hosting a Pfizer vaccine clinic in the community. The clinic will take place Thursday July 29th, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, at the community Multiplex. 

The Pfizer vaccination clinic is available to adults and youth aged twelve and older. The vaccine clinic is available for Savant Lake and ONS residents.

COVID-19 Emergency Funding

The ONS Health Centre with the Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA) and the Northwestern Health Unit (NWHU) have organized a Pfizer vaccine clinic for the community. The clinic will take place Friday July 2nd, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, at the community Multiplex.

Effective July 2, 2021, ONS will open to non-residents with restrictions - June 21, 2021

Chief and Headmen of ONS and the Pandemic Team would like to inform the membership and residents that effective July 2, 2021, the community will open to non-residents with restrictions. We will require visitors to submit a form 72 hours prior to their arrival date. This form can be found on the website and our Facebook page. Completed forms are to be emailed to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or faxed to 807-928-2611. Visitor request approvals will be by email or phone. Decisions will be based by the region visitors will travel from. Thunder Bay, Kenora and Fort Frances will be areas that ONS will consider our region. Out of province visitors will need to provide a negative COVID-19 test result. 


2021 Christmas Payment to All Ojibway Nation of Saugeen Members

We continue to make sure all of our families are looked after, as part of our yearly Christmas outreach program. While in the past our Christmas Hamper Program has met the needs of our local families, we want to make sure that all of our members' Christmas needs are met in this difficult year of continuing COVID-19.

New Band Manager
November 1, 2021

The Chief and Headmen are happy to announce that Fran Machimity is the new Band Manager for the Ojibway Nation of Saugeen, effective November 1, 2021.

April 20, 2020

The Customary Chief and Headmen, along with all staff, have been working hard to keep our Community and Members safe from the Global COVID-19 Pandemic. Ojibway Nation of Saugeen applied for the emergency COVID funding from Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) at the end of March 2020, and received confirmation from Canada last week on the amount and this morning on the terms attached to those funds.

Please be aware that Desiree Jacko is NOT part of the NEW working group and no ratificiation vote will be conducted based on her Survey Monkey results. All ONS community members are encouraged to reach out to participate in the legitimate NEW working group.
