About the Ojibway Nation of Saugeen


The Ojibway Nation Of Saugeen is located in Northwestern Ontario, in the Thunder Bay District, approximately 20 kilometres northwest of Savant Lake. 

Situated on the shores of Kashawagama Lake, the Ojibway Nation of Saugeen is located 50 km north east of Sioux Lookout and 20 km northwest of Savant Lake off the Pickle Lake highway.

It is accessible year-round by road. Saugeen has a registered population of 201 (April 2007) with 109 members living off reserve. The Governments of Canada, Ontario, the Nishnawbe-Aski Nation and six of its member First Nations (Aroland, Keewaywin, McDowell Lake, New Slate Falls, Saugeen, and Wawakapewin) signed and agreement in December 1991 to make lands available to establish Indian reserves in the six communities and to provide basic community

Our purpose as a First Nation is to continually improve the quality of life, social and cultural well-being of our membership for present and future generations.

Our vision speaks to what the ONOS membership wants to achieve in the next 5 years. The vision is meant to inspire, motivate and be inclusive of our entire community. We will measure our success and progress as a community by way of our vision. Our Mission To Fulfill our purpose and in our journey towards our vision, we, the Lac des Mille Lacs First Nation are committed to rebuilding a strong sense of community following a holistic approach and inclusive processes for healthy community development.
